"What a trained nurse
wrote to her young sister,"
black-and-white menstruation & puberty
booklet
(probably late 1930s or early 1940s,
The Personal Products Corp., U.S.A., maker of
Modess pads)
pages 5-6

of this booklet.
Note the quote of an "old colored
preacher" in black dialect on the
right-hand page, something that
would be unheard of today in
mainstream media. Compare the
racist jokes in the 1936 The American
Girl magazine, the official Girl
Scout magazine, although the jokes
also generously maligned Irish (other
white Americans despised them for
decades) and Swedish immigrants.
