The Lydia E. Pinkham Medicine Co., maker of medicine for headaches,
constipation, insomnia, depression, cancer, tumors, women's diseases,
flatulence, menstruation, fertility, etc., U.S.A.:
Come into the Kitchen, booklet,
about 1930
Below: P. 32. I'm not sure in what sense
humor is meant. The four humors as constituents
of the body's fluids was a popular medical theory for centuries but this
seems to be a negative usage only and might be - probably is - a
then-current popular usage.
The basic meaning going back to Latin was moisture.
Note alternative tonic (on the label), alternative
used in the sense it's used today: as opposed to main-stream medicine.

Below: Inside back cover. This marketing
survey shows that such a thing is not recent and that this company's
careful attention probably contributed to its enormous
success.
The mat is carefully tuned to the booklet's theme.
