"How Times Have Changed: A Manual of Menstruation, Its Purpose,
Function and Care," Tampax Inc., 1950s, U.S.A.

Below: Pp. 1-2. In the right-hand column
it's almost certainly not true that women could
buy no disposables in America until after WWI. Lister's
Towels (pads) and possibly Hartmann's pads
were available before WWI. Women have probably often made their tampons
but the book seems to be right that no commercial tampons were available
(until the early 1930s, in America, then in Europe).

on recent superstitions in Blood Magic: The Anthropology
of Menstruation by Thomas Buckley and Alma Gottlieb (U. of California,
1988).
Read the pertinent verses in the Bible for column
two, below. The same column refers to seclusion in India in the past; read
about seclusion in India today.
