Ad for Carefree pantiliner
(Slip-Einlagen), Mädchen magazine
(1981, Dr. Carl Hahn GmbH, Germany)
I don't remember if American
manufacturers have advertised panty
pads for vaginal secretions other than
menstruation from girls in early
puberty but the Germans have -
covering all the bases, I guess. The
Germans and northern Europeans tend to
be much more open about menstruation
(and sex). This ad appeared in a
magazine called (translated) Girl
(interestingly, there is a German
magazine for girls called Girl, the
English word, showing the stylishness
of English), for girls, so remember
that young girls were reading these
ads, not their mothers, unless on the
sly.
The next three ads treat secretions
before the first menstruation,
irregular periods before a steady
cycle has been established, and
secretions between periods, all aimed
at girls in early puberty. I'll
translate each.
[Headline, below]
Many young girls have [vaginal]
secretions before the first
menstruation. Carefree pantiliners
help with that.
[Smaller text]
"A few years before the first
menstruation the production of sex
hormones starts in the body. At the
beginning in small quantities then
slowly increasing, they cause the
sexual development. Until the
complicated interplay of the
hormones has finished there
frequently can be [vaginal]
secretions. Many young girls have
leuchorrhea [a white discharge]
before the first menstruation. It
can be so heavy that it completely
soaks panties and jeans. To keep the
'intimate area' [my quotes]
hygienically clean and dry it's good
to wear a light panty protection:
Carefree pantiliners. They're highly
absorbent and moisture can't
penetrate the bottom side. And
because they're so extremely thin
and soft they're really comfortable.
An extra wide adhesive strip holds
them securely in the panties and
they don't slip and lose their
shape. Carefree pantiliners let you
feel fresh and well groomed. Every
day.
And for all girls who would like a
pleasant scent there's Carefree with
deodorant.
[Big words at bottom]
Carefree Pantiliners. The hygienic
panty protection for every day.
The ad
measures 8 x 10 5/8" (20.5 x 27.1
cm).
