"You're a young lady now" (Kotex puberty
& menstruation booklet,
U.S.A., 1959)
Pages 4-5
Read more
about the booklet here.
Part of
the problems around menstruation
originate with the silence
recommended in the first
sentence. She may not discuss it
with her friends?? A tad over
three decades later Kotex showed
the consequence of someone of
the opposite sex finding out.
Secrecy breeds shame. It also
inhibits women and girls from
sharing experiences and finding
out what works and what's
normal.
