Museum of Menstruation and Women's Health
Marriage
Hygiene, booklet, 1942,
Lanteen Laboratories, U.S.A
First off, marriage hygiene means birth control in
marriage.
Second, in 1942 the Comstock
laws in America prohibited the
selling and promotion of
contraception to unmarried women.
This booklet uses terminology that
allows the reader to infer what is
really meant.
I'm assuming the date of 1942
because of what was in the newspaper
clippings the donor sent that were
found with the booklet. One ad in
the clipping had a copyright date of
1942. But probably the definitive
proof is the last
line of text in the booklet.
See another Lanteen booklet, Birth
Control: A Health Necessity in
Marriage, 1930.
Read 1930s criticism
of Zonite and Lysol. More douches
in the column at left.
Contraception
and religion.
Visit the odor
page.
I
thank the generous donor!

Below:
The mayor of Dodge City started
the Palace Drug Store in 1883 to
sell
medicinal liquor since Kansas
prohibited liquor as such (source).
Companies like Mrs.
Pinkham's in the East also
sold such medicine.
But that must have been after the
Wild West-hombres like Wyatt Earp
and Doc Holliday gained
their fame in this town made even
more
famous to us by Marshall Mat
Dillon and his deputy Chester
Proudfoot
in the radio and TV series Gunsmoke.
This can't be right
but let me speak!: Look at the
first letter of the
name of the drug store. Sure looks
like an F
to me.
The Falace
Drug Store? Phallus?
Why, that fits right into the
theme of this booklet!
