I thank the retired teacher
who generously sent these tins!

Below:
The outside of the 1961-67 open
metal box, pill-containing bottom
at top, measures
3 3/16 x 1 3/16" (8 x 3 x 0.5 cm).
The donor
writes, "This is what my sister
carried."
|
|
Below:
The last lines on the outside
back, enlarged, showing the
ingredients. "Cinnamedrine.
Alpha-[1-(Cinnamylmethylamino)ethyl]benzyl
alcohol [is] a smooth muscle
relaxant used in the treatment
of menstrual cramping,"
states
cancerweb.ncl.ac.uk/cgi-bin/omd?cinnamedrine.
Bad news:
http://physchem.ox.ac.uk/MSDS/PH/phenacetin.html
writes about phenacetin
(picture above): " Harmful if
swallowed or inhaled. Reported
as causing cancer in laboratory
animals. NTP anticipated human
carcinogen." Harmful if
swallowed?? A 1911 Midol
ad brags that Midol doesn't
contain phenacetin!
