Above the washable pads the pictures
represent bulb
syringes, similar to that of
a contemporary American syringe, here, and
sold in the text at right (the title
translates as Douche Sets and Separate
Pieces). "Irrigaterspritze
'Frauenfreund,'" in the right-hand
column, means "Irrigating Squirt-Bulb
'Women's Friend,'" which was really no
friend, most of the time anyway.
The washable pads, at bottom,
resemble ones from Norway from
the 19th century.
