Two dealers'
cartons of Wix menstrual
tampons, 1930s-1940s?, U.S.A.
Larger
carton
Wix was one
of the first American commercial
tampons, appearing in the
early 1930s. Tampax
bought the company (and Holly-Pax)
later in the decade but it still
produced tampons. Like many early
tampons, Wix had no insertion
device, something that
Tampax developed and patented.
Dealers
received these cartons; they sold
the enclosed boxes of tampons and
gave away the brochures. Early on,
some interesting saleswomen
inducted potential customers into
the mysteries of tampons with this
chart.
Women could buy Wix in the 1934
Sears, Roebuck catalog (here), two years before
Tampax came on the broad market.

Below:
Front of the carton, which held one dozen boxes
of 12 tampons each (embossed
version, at top).
It measures 9 x 6 x 3" (23.5 x
15.3 x 7.5 cm).
The bottom is blank
with just the color of the
cardboard. The boxes of tampons
inside
look like this embossed
version (at top) and the brochures
inside are here.
