What did women do about menstruation
in the past?
|
Rubella applicator menstrual
tampon, normal (regular)
(France, 1973)
Rubella?!
German
measles springs
to an American mind with
this synonym for the
disease.
But the French are
definitely not
Americans; they call
that affliction
(measles, not Americans)
rubéole.
The
company's name, Ruby -
a borrowing from
English in place of
their own rubis? -
probably formed the
basis for the name.
All these words
basically mean red,
appropriate for both
the gem and
menstruation. But the
color is rare in
American packaging for
menstrual products;
see an early
exception.
A
close call! No
quarantine necessary.
I thank the former
Tambrands for donating
Rubella.

Back of box. Unless I'm
mistranslating the
French "applicateur
soluble dans l'eau,"
the applicator is NOT
soluble in
water but something DOES
happen - see my

with
a better translation.

The opposite sides are
identical except for the
faint number 4,00
to the right
of "rubella," enlarged

price.
