Ad for
Kotex stick tampon, July
1972, U.S.A., Seventeen magazine
Kimberly-Clark
See the tampon itself.
This was not the only tampon-on-a-stick:
the Japanese created at least one
more-elaborate
version designed like its origami sister
to forestall brain shrinkage not
least by offering the user an
opportunity to invent new curse
words. Maybe the courteous
Japanese screamed them to
themselves.
The ad page measures 9 7/8 x 12"
(25.1 x 30.5 cm) when magazines
were the size nature intended
(this page has been trimmed on the
left side). The oil crisis that
came soon afterwards reduced the
pages to what we know today.
