The donor, and original owner, who lives in the Midwest, wrote the following:

This will be the first (and, most likely, last) time anything of mine has ever been displayed in a museum. Best of luck in your endeavors!

By the way, I think it's wonderful that you are an enlightened male who is comfortable with the topic of menstruation. I don't think I know any men who aren't just a little bit squeamish about "the curse."

As for the calendar - yes, that would represent my first periods. Looking at those books now makes me appreciate my precocious reading skills more than ever. My mother offered very little in the way of a verbal explanation of menstruation and opted to give me the books to read instead of having "a talk." I was two months shy of my tenth birthday when my first period arrived. Seemingly, the written word had explained it well enough because I don't recall ever having that "talk" with her. I had no sisters and my friends were less enlightened on the subject than me. Now, nearly 30 years later, I can barely recall a time in my life when I didn't have to contend with the monthly monsoon. I am told early bloomers often finish later - that suggests I may still have another couple of decades to have that "talk" with mom!

Perhaps one day when you have your public facility, I will get to see them on display. :-)
