THE MUSEUM OF
MENSTRUATION AND WOMEN'S HEALTH
Sponges for contraception -
birth control - and absorbing
menstrual discharge
Thanks
very much for this sponge to the
retired teacher who has
contributed much information and
many items to the museum!

Below:
The sponge case measures 1.75"
(4.4 cm) in diameter and is 1"
(2.5 cm) thick,
basically the same as the other sponge
cans. But this one is made
of cardboard
instead of
metal.
The label on the bottom (middle
image) probably came from
a dealer. The top (left)
has a reflective
paper (?) label that is affixed
askew. The side
(right) shows a
corrugated cardboard.
It might date from the first half of the 20th
century and seems
American.

Below:
The sponge sits in the case; the
inside of the top is at right. It
probably
looks very much like the unfurled
sponge on the introductory
page.
