Sanpax(d?) menstrual tampons,
Switzerland? Israel? 1969-1970
Tampons
Main
discussion.
Tambrands kindly donated the
box as part of a large gift
from its archives.

Below:
The tampon with tubes measures
about 5.2" long (about 13 cm). The
paper wrapper bears no writing;
the Tampax, below, does.
|
|
|
Compare regular Tampax from the
same year, 1970, below. They look very
similar in their cardboard
tubes. I wonder if sanpax(d)
infringed on the Tampax patent.
|
|
Below:
The box containing the
above Tampax, reduced in
size, which Tambrands
donated to this museum.
Someone at that company
marked the box. The box
is almost exactly the
size as the sanpax(d)
box. See Primella,
another tampon probably
from Switzerland
and closely resembling
Sanpax and Tampax of this
era.

Back to sanpax(d), below.
The cotton plug measures
about 2.25 x 0.5" (about
5.7 x 1.3 cm) and the
string about 4.75 " (about
12 cm) long. The inner
(upper here) tube measures
about 2.85 x 0.5" (about
7.3 cm x 1.3 cm), the
outer about 2.75 x 5.1"
(about 7 x 1.31 cm). You
can see the holes
that make ridges that hold
the tampon tubes in place
until a finger pushes the
the end. Tampax, above,
has the same holes.

|
One of the Tampax people
apparently investigated the 'pon,
below,
and left it in the box.
|
|
Below:
These stapled bundles of
paper snuggled in the box
next to the tampons (each
about 3.5 x 2.1", about 9
x 5 cm). Note what looks
like "NO" and "NI" in
pencil and ink. The brown
paper doesn't match any
part of the box, tampons
or instructions but the
white paper might be the
same as the instructions
on the next page. Are they
paper samples left by
the developers?
Someone made a similar
mark on the instructions
on the next page.
