Articles criticizing the
Rely menstrual tampon, 1975-76,
years before the toxic shock
crisis
This article, from the 23 July -
5 August 1975 issue of the
Rochester (New York) Patriot
newspaper, raised many issues we
are still dealing with, and shows
what a determined newspaper can
do.
The second page of the article
mentions that the TV ad for Rely
was the first
ever for a tampon, and that Playtex tampon company was
beginning its own television
ads in response to the
Rely campaign.
And see the other tampons
Procter & Gamble also sold
around the time of Rely.
Tambrands kindly donated
these articles to the museum,
which bear markings from that
company.
