MUSEUM OF MENSTRUATION AND WOMEN'S
HEALTH
Kotams first
Kotex stick menstrual tampons
(Kimberly-Clark Corp., maker of Kotex
menstrual pads, panties, belts, educational booklets),
1960-65,
U.S.A.
Instructions
I thank the
former Tambrands for donating
the box!
|
Below:
The instruction sheet (folded
twice vertically, very inelegant
as the fold runs through
text and drawings) measures 8 1/4
x 5 1/2" (21 x 14 cm).
"Kotams have no bulky cardboard
applicator!": That, of course, was
the genius
of Tampax.
Second-to-last
paragraph: "miracle fibers
that absorb faster, more
thoroughly."
Using different
non-cotton fibers, Rely tampon
later caused many deaths and
injured women from toxic shock
syndrome. I wonder if Kotams
caused any injuries.
The ladies
at right look like clip art
from the era.

Item #3:
The contemporary tampon Pursettes
DID have a lubricated
tip.
