MUSEUM OF MENSTRUATION AND WOMEN'S HEALTH
Tassette rubber menstrual cup (catamenial
receptor) prospectus,
instructions, promotional leaflets for women, doctors & medical
community (1950s-1960s, U.S.A.) (tentative
history of this cup,
pictures & sketchy history
of American menstrual cups)
Stock prospectus for Tassette, Inc.
I thank the former Tambrands, maker of Tampax tampons, for contributing
this material!

Below: Dr. Max Geller developed the image
of the tulip for Tassette.
A tulip, of course, relects the shape of Tassette
(the founder of The Keeper
menstrual cup decades later considered naming it Liberty Bell) but
flowers in general have often had connections
with menstrual products probably
because they smell good (advertisers emphasize
the risk of menstrual odor), they're
"feminine" ("daintiness" is
a persistent theme in the advertising of menstrual products), and because
of the peculiar
etymology of flowers, meaning
menstruation. And maybe other reasons.
Femininity and daintiness were literally part of Tassette's ad
campaign; and see a silly but
somehow meaningful TEST OF
(upper-middle-class-well-educated) FEMININITY!
But this fits in: the general manager was president of the INSTITUTE FOR GRACIOUS LIVING (??)!
