Has Anyone Heard of the Daintette Menstrual
Cup (picture, bottom of page; article
about it)?
From the following e-mail I just found out about a menstrual cup
I had never heard of:
I am the Registrar at our local historical society. We have just received
a menstrual cup and I cannot date it. Maybe you can help. I have read your
on-line information about the history of menstrual cups but it does not
mention the one we have.
The name on our box says "Daintette," made by Dainty Maid,
Inc., cost $2.50. The cup itself is a green color and made of rubber.
I will appreciate any help you can give me.
I've asked for more information and a photo or photocopy. I'd love
to know more about the cup. I'll post what information I receive. This is
exciting!
Does Jerry Lewis Give Menstruation a Bad Name?
The American cable television channel Arts & Entertainment recently
showed a one-hour biography of the American comedian
Jerry Lewis, who in the 1940s and 1950s starred with Dean Martin
in a series of movies, and at one time was on the top of the entertainment
world in the U.S.A. His most famous film is probably The
Nutty Professor.
In the biography he discusses one of the film producers he worked with
who was good at making dramas.
But when it came to comedy, Lewis says, "He had a sense of humor
like a menstrual period."
You mean a bloody good one?

Do You Have Irregular Menses?
If so, you may have polycystic ovary syndrome.
Jane Newman, Clinical Research Coordinator at Brigham
and Women's Hospital, Harvard University School of Medicine, asked
me to tell you that
Irregular menses identify women at high risk for polycystic ovary syndrome
(PCOS), which exists in 6-10% of women of
reproductive age. PCOS is a major cause of infertility
and is linked to diabetes.
Learn more about current
research on PCOS at Brigham and Women's
Hospital, the University of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania State University
- or contact Jane Newman..
If you have fewer than six
periods a year, you may be eligible to participate
in the study!
